Juliet Marillier has grown in stature to become one of the greats of historical fantasy, comparable to the best of earlier generations such as Mary Stewart. True historical fantasy is an under-rated and under-populated genre. We need more Marilliers!
Joe Abercrombie is, to my mind, quite the best epic fantasy writer of his generation, comparable only to predecessors such as George R.R. Martin, Roger Zelazny and, of course, Gemmell himself. I can't wait for Best Served Cold...but I have to, don...
