Here’s a break-down of how the timetable for the Award is shaping up and how we plan for it all to come together.
The Longlist:
Nominations for the Longlist can ONLY be made by an Editor working within a commercial genre fiction publisher. We have endeavoured to contact EVERY major genre publisher about the Award, but we hope if any List or Publisher has been omitted, they will bring the omission to our attention.
Nominated novels must be in the English language, first published in 2008.
The nominated novels must be deemed to be Fantasy and/or in the spirit or tradition of David Gemmell’s own work.
All nominated work will be added to the ‘Longlist’ – the Award organisers will not discount any suitable work but will present all the books for the Longlist vote.
Note that, all suitable novels published up until New Year 2008 are eligible i.e. those as yet unpublished at this date (September).
If you are an Author, and think your book might be eligible for the 2008 Award, please contact your own Editor and discuss it with them.
The Poll will open on December 26th 2008.
VOTE! Voting will take place via the website until 31st March 2009, when the Poll will be closed. Each person may only vote ONCE.
The Shortlist:
The TOP 5 novels to have accrued the most votes during the voting period will form the Shortlist. This will be announced during the first week of April 2009.
The Shortlist poll will then be opened for the public to vote once more. Note that votes accrued from the Longlist will NOT be carried forward - so it is vital to vote for your favourite from the top 5.
The WINNER will be announced at the Award Ceremony in June 2009 – venue to be confirmed.
