The David Gemmell Legend Awards

Can anyone suggest a good book for me to read. I've been finding it really hard in finding new good books to read. All suggestions welcome.

Hiya Scott! Have you printed off the pdf file of the Longlist? It's over there ---->>>
Might give you a few suggestions - have you read the Shortlist? Some crackers on there! (Not that I'm biased!)

Sometimes a departure from a good fantasy read is warranted......particularly when digesting a good read.

How about some Horror........try Talisman and Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub writing together? How about a bit of historical fantasy.......try Illium by Dan Simmons.......or an alternate view book like The Terror also by Dan Simmons. You could go mainstream with The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. How about The Alchemist by Paul Coelho or The War of Don Emmanuel's Nether Parts by Louis de Bernieres.......for a good British read try some Christopher Brookmyre...Boiling a Frog and Be My Enemy.

If you fancy a bit of space opera try The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell (it is excellent, and made me cry despite myself, and I'm a tough cookie usually).

Failing it all.....I do enjoy Pratchett's Discworld for comfortable re-read between masterpieces.

Hope this helps.

Theres plenty of good stuff out there, one I'd nominate is Pat Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind or perhaps Scott Lynch's Gentlemen Bastard series (Lies of Locke Lamora being book one.) Both are good fun and as Debs has mentioned the sheer quality of those nominated (especially the shortlist) will provide quite a lot of fun for you.
