The David Gemmell Legend Awards

Here's the place to discuss Brandon's work and nomination. Why do you think this author should win? What is it about thier writing that has you banging on the bookshop door the day of thier release? Why should people vote for this author over any other?

I've got to say that Brandon Sanderson truly took me by suprise.
I received an e-book of his first in this series, which i found hurt my eyes to read, being on a computer screen for so long, and the constant scrolling was more than irritating.
This was made worse by the fact that i couldn't stop reading.
At all!

The characters are so vibrant, they draw you in, you care for them, they are brilliantand colourful, quite like Gemmells characters. There is the heroism, inner turmoil, An entirely real and astonishingly detailed world complete with a history, great plots, humour mixed along, and romance aswell as a thoroughly amazing and unique system of magic.
All these aspects ring true to the Spirit of David Gemmells writing to my mind, and regardless of whether it wins the award or not, i reccommend him to anyone out there with a penchant for fantasy.

oh god that reads like a speech or something doesn't it?

This book has everything that's good in a fantasy and more. Not jut action, hardcore philosophy and theology, romances, but solid, original ideas. The whole trilogy is very good, but The Hero of Ages is stellar. Brandon Sanderson has a good sense to raise the bets and keep you heavily guessing. In a certain point of the book I was completely sure of the last two metals and their supposed use in the story and while it would have been logical, nothing like that turned out in the end. I had success with others, though. This is a quickly moving story, with tons of secrets, cannot be put down.

The Hero of Ages is a masterful conclusion to Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy. The writing, pacing, characterization, and sheer mass of imagination found in this book is wondrous. I never knew what was going to happen next, and tiny, seemingly unimportant details from earlier books could have earth-shattering consequences.

I'm still reading nominees, but I'm 99% sure I'll be voting for The Hero of Ages. Sanderson set the bar that high.

Was very impressed and surprised by this one. For some reason i approached the series as a whole without many expectations. How wrong was i. Well written, fast paced, with everything a good fantasy book should have, without it being formulaic. I also thought i had the metals down ( and was wrong!). Looking at the longlist i would certainly put this one in my top 10. Also have no concerns about Sanderson finishing off WOT, can't wait to see what he does.

I'm going to have to agree with the rest. This series came out of no where for me (got the first book as a free ebook (Kindle version so I didn't have to hurt my eyes)) and it hooked after three chapters. It's now on my "must suggest" list for whenever anyone asks me for a new fantasy author.
