The David Gemmell Legend Awards

So who which actors would play which characters.
I'm thinking the head viking in 'the 13th warrior' to play Druss!
What do you think?

What do you mean by 'my Brother and I' for the style? I checked John Landis's work at IMDB, the only noteworthy thing he seems to have made was The Blues Brothers, what makes you suggest him for this film?

In terms of style for the fights I was thinking that the slow motion fight scenes that Zack Snyder had in 300 and The Watchmen would be perfect to showcase the incredible speed of Druss, Rek, Bowman and The Thirty. However, I'm a big fan of the way Clint Eastwood builds a movie - the characters are always well fleshed out and I usually care a great deal about them by the end of his movies. Last but not least, I think Mel Gibson has directed some pretty good stuff as well. His violence in Passion of the Christ made me cringe (not many movies make me do that). The pace and sense of adventure in Apocalypto was also solid. Braveheart won 5 oscars. Some might suggest Peter Jackson but I agree with someone's earlier comment about LOTR lacking a human feel.

I mean I would love to do this film and have had many (and I mean MANY) an evening talking about making a Gemmell film, as for Landis he followed Blues Brothers with An American Wherewolf, and was at the height of his directing powers when the book was written, alsoI tried to find someone who has not done a similar genre.

I did not go for Snyder as althought his style is still fresh, it will probably not age so well, Mel Gibson I think would do well but you could be onto a winner with Clint Eastwood, superb building of all his films.

I dont think Druss was incredibaly fast, I get the feel that he is like my Kung Fu instructor although he was fast he always appeared to be moving slightly slower than everyone else he was up against, but he was never their when you hit him and most of the time because of the way he moved you had already been hit, and on the rare occation you did get him he had taken most of the power out of it. Rek and most of the Thirty on the other hand like lightning...

I would be hoping for a more real-time style of fight choreography, for most of the fights except when The Thirty are fighting spiritualy.

In terms of direction (small d) the film will need sensitive producers, screenwriters and then good dramatic interpretation. Clint Eastwood is an interesting choice, and having seen Mystic River, Unforgiven and many others agree he builds characters well.

The story is not about the action though.....and I would hate this to become an epic action movie, when frankly it could be far more of a tale with some action..............I'm thinking mini-series now.

Is there a screenplay out there......anyone know?

I'm working on one. There is no way it can be translated verbatim from the book though, its just too big in script form.

I have started on the Waylander script, just a few chapters in but it is comming along.

The plan is to do the complete book as is with some broad brush strokes and then will work on pairing it down to a feature length.
