Evening wear ?! Help me!

So, I've never been to a black tie affair and am having to enlist the help of my sister for a shopping trip.
Can anyone suggest a good place in surrey to look? (for a dress, not my sister, I know where she is)

LOL! Well, as I am a large-ish lady, I do find buying posh frocks sometimes difficult. For this I'm getting my gorgeous skirt online from 'Moon Maiden Gothic' - but as I'm going to be on the stage (gulp!) what I'm wearing might be less than under-stated!

Actually, in the past, I've found one of the best shops to be Debenhams, surprisingly! Don't know if you have one nearby Tricia? Also, TK Max can be good - but a bit hit and miss... Hope you enjoy your shopping trip - all part of the fun!

i'm really looking forward to the chance of getting dressed up. I do have a full length dress but am not sure if it will be too much, though my 'lesser half' is looking forward to dusting of the tux as he has very few chances to wear it. Thanks for bringing this up as i was wondering!!

Also being on the largish side I was worried about where to go, didn't think about debenhams, so will give them a try.

Debenhams Debut range is really well cut and fits like a dream regardless of size, also Monsoon do have some beautiful dresses, just depends how much you want to blow on one dress!

Im going for a simple suit, nothing fancy just understated, probably a black shirt (I'm putting it together myself) so perhaps also an insignia added for something a little different., other than that, just a tie that can easily be pocketed as the night goes on. LOL

Went to Debenhams yesterday and found a dress that I like, not sure if it's a bit over the top though...
Which brings me to my next problem (I'm a pain I know) I'm going to be coming directly from work, so is there anywhere I can get changed?

Are there any stores nearby that might not mind if we utilise one of thier facilities or perhaps ask the hotel if they have an area that would suffice with so many staying there.

the dress i was planning on is a red long dress from debut!, i think that would look stunning so may have to re think what i'm wearing now so we don't have to spend the evening on either side of the room. Have also told my other half he does not have to wear a tux but he says he wants to as does not get too many opportunities to show it off!

I've also been looking on that moon maiden gothic site Deborah mentioned and there are some lovely items there. Sigh, shame I can't justify a shopping trip there, as I spent about a hundred pounds on books last week. Back to the old jeans and a T-shirt for me.

aaahh but the books are more than worth it, though i sometimes think my other half would be happier if i wore my more expensive outfits more often, even if it was just to read in!
