Known for a number of series (AGE OF MISRULE, THE DARK AGE TRILOGY) here is the place to talk about Mark and his work, in particular, The Burning Man (for which he has been nominated), part of the Kingdom of the Serpent series.
I love MC. I read his books in order and have the burning man the most intriguing out of all his books in the ongoing series. His mix of legends and myths with technology, ancient gods and the 'end of everything' and the army of the ten billion spiders is inspiring. I believe he is very like Gemmell in use of damaged hero's. I hope more people most on this section.

I'm hopelessly in love with the Age of Misrule trilogy. There's just something utterly enchanting about it. But we're here to talk Burning Man aren't we... :-> Still loving the characterisation of Laura - she remains awesome! Would have liked there to be more in Egypt though...
A stunning book. Where Jack of Ravens was a more gentle meander through the ages this is a full pelt race around the world against impossible odds and forces. The magic in all the books is more than the blue fire, Mark has a great ability to weave a very complex and enthralling tale drawing on so many beliefs, legends and gods. The Age of Misrule series takes you on a tour of Britain and its many ancient sites. The Dark Age trilogy looks at human reactions to famine, plague and politics. This final series takes you through the many beliefs and religions and where they stem from as well as putting a different spin on history. They are an education as well as a fabulous, scary, thought provoking tale. The Burning Man leaves you breathless and eagerly awaiting the finale.
And evil was never better personified than in the Libertarian. If this doesn't get to the short list I shall find a hat to eat!
