I don't know if this is actually his first book but was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the writing. I loved the idea of the insect-kinden and also the fact that I wasn't subjected to three chapters telling me how the relationship between humans and insects happened. The story was well-paced, the characters were interesting and complex enough to keep me hooked and, as the story followed characters from both sides (Empire and Lowland) you get a complete picture of what's happening, not just a limited, one-sided view. I'm eagerly awaiting the rest of this trilogy!

It is his first book and I agree I was amazed how well it was written, most first books lack a fair bit even when the author goes on to much better things.

Next one is out in Feb.

It's very kind of you to say so. Yes, first book, after a very long time indeed of trying to break into the market.

The book was a pleasure to read - I'm glad you persevered. Looking forward to the next one next month :)

Ah, what I would give to break out like your good self!!!

A fellow lawyer who has achieved his goal of achieving more than legal headbanging.

Maybe one day little old me will do the same.

I will read your book in the meantime ...

Hi drosdelnoch its senlic here! i have really enjoyed 'empire' thought it was a good first book, drawing comparisons to DG it was fast paced and the characters were believable and for me at least stenwolds character had shadows of DG about him,a hero with flaws and self doubt but with an ability to push through them.

I've just finished empire, and it was brilliant! Quite a surprise to me. I didn't think that I would enjoy this book so much after reading the back page story, but I loved it. Quite high up on my list of good books read in the last year.
