The David Gemmell Legend Awards

Known for being not only prolific but a standard to set to other authors it will probably come as no surprise that Raymond has been nominated for the award. As such here is the thread where you can chat about his writing as well as the book for which he has been nominated. Why do you think Raymond should win? What is it about his writing that just makes him a must buy for you?

I've read all his books that I could get my hands on. Wrath of a mad god was pretty good, especialy the ending...

I have read every Midkemia book written by Raymond Feist as well as the Empire books. Everything before Dark Realm 2-4 times each. I enjoy them every time. Mad God was a very enjoyable read. It had some long coming revelations of certain characters which I had guessed for the most part from the clues given throughout the books. The Midkemia books are one of those series that I grab whenever it comes out.

I'm in a quandry here! I love REF and his books are on the shelf of the book shop for 3 seconds before they're in my trolley.
Wrath of a mad God was a fine finish to that dark war serial. Not his finest, but with REF his worst should be a bench mark that I would truly like to reach at the pinnacle of my writing career.
This is the only book of the nominations I have read, but I don't think I would vote for it. I know his heroes are heroic but there's something Gemmellesque missing from them. The only characters who would have warranted this award were Rupert Avery & Eric Von Darkmoor for their mortality & realism but they're soon or will be long gone.

Hmm. I agree about the lack of Gemmelesuqe...erm...ness about Feist, but he is still an amazing writer. I've read most of his books, and enjoyed every one of them. Strangely enough It was Magician, the very first book (as far as I know, would be happy to find some sort of secret, hidden series in there) that became my favourite book from the writer, and one of my favourite books of all time. The rest of the books have been superb, but none can beat the depth and storyline of the first. In particular I like the sheer differance in culture between the human and tsurani worlds throughout the books, and how this latest book seems to have brought things almost full circle.

I love the Midkemia adventures and I am always quick to purchase a new Feist when it is published, but I view these as a bit of a guilty pleasure and whip through them in a couple of hours. I've read them all and it is easy for me to fall back into the lilt of his writing. My favourite books of his are those in collaboration with Janny Wurts...................Current favourite character Kaspar of Olasko.
